Judge's evaluation

This work looks like a real candies wrapped with colorful film. Very realistic appearance makes us to pick up. Drawings of flower and fruit patterns are all unique, very detailed, and finely painted. You can wear this as single or as all seven pieces. According to the artist, these candy pendants are made from inspiration of 150 years of Finland’s traditional event, and created with fun memory of the event which must have been cancelled after COVID regulations. All those bright decorations seem to give us a hope for the future.

Winner's Comment

Thank you with all my heart! Silver Accessories Contest is such an amazing event, it's such a delight to take part. I’m humbled and grateful to have won an award.
‘Sweet Moments’ candies were inspired by activities I've been embracing at home. For example, the blue candy was inspired by‘Words’, as I've been doing more reading and writing. The piece represents little moments that bring good vibes. At my studio I also have a jar filled with candies, including those from ‘Penkkarit’, a fun tradition in Finland for more than a hundred years, where the final year high school students share candies to everyone. These colorful candies bring smiles as well as lovely memories.
To study the candy 'anatomy', I had one candy accompanying me along the whole process. I wanted to get the construction, as well as the spirit of a candy, and then translate these all into my jewelry. sketching is always essential, and during the implementation, the planned sketches could change a bit or much, until the piece is fired. In between all these steps, having some sweets naturally belonged to the process 😉

Judge's evaluation

These houses are created in the very free-style design as if the artist was listening to the voice of clay. When 5 houses are displayed at once, it makes very mystical atmosphere. Each roof has screw inside, and removal. Soul Keepers locked a lot of important messages inside such as hope, secret and fear. I am wondering if they are similar to Japanese amulet. This exotic art can be worn as pendant or can be used as object has the reflection of medieval times to modern times of Estonia.

Winner's Comment

I am very happy to be part of the contest and very grateful that my work was noticed and appreciated. It really gives me a lot of courage to pursue this art even further. Silver Clay is my big passion and I am fascinated by the opportunities it provides to a clay artist. A wholehearted thank you for such a valuable recognition. Every house is different in its character. These houses are inspired by the nature from my neighborhood, so on them, fragments from plants, blossoms, mushrooms, butterflies and dragonflies can be found. The rooftops form a screw-on cap to a secret compartment, designed to hold something small, but meaningful to the owner. If desired, they can be worn as pendants but can also be used to decorate your home.

Judge's evaluation

Many umbrellas gathered make the sphere design ring. I see many kinds of umbrella such as large, small and gold colored one. Some umbrellas have embedded blue stone like water drops make a light accent. The news that people in Hong Kong marching with umbrellas still left in our fresh memory. Even small umbrellas gathered as one will make really strong team. The message and design of this ring got me rethink the connection and bond of people.

Winner's Comment

I am so glad and excited to hear about winning the award. I would like to express my gratitude to judge members in appreciating my work, and to my tutor in teaching and guiding me through the technical skills. It has been a tough year for Hong Kong. People are discouraged, powerless and anxious, negative emotions are overwhelming. At that time, I realized making silver art crafts is soothing, relieved and found inner peace. I followed my feelings, wishing to create impressive and touching work. Every audience may have different interpretation on the work, but that is the fun of art. I will keep up the good efforts, design and create more authentic and excellent silver jewelries in the future.

From Chinese mythology, a crane of God's messenger is called a long life crane which has been a symbol of good luck, and a healthy long life. This is my first time to apply to the contest, and realize there are so many wonderful works around me. I am very appreciated for the award. I keep doing my best to make good works ahead, and spread excitement of metal clay to others.

I am delighted and very honoured to have won this award. I love working with Art Clay Silver and this contest encourages me to push myself to try new ideas and to improve my work. All the winning pieces are amazing and I am very blessed to have my piece chosen to be one of them. My thanks to the judges and everyone involved in making this such a wonderful contest.
This was my first time making a framed work and I am now very inspired to make more. When I was making this I was searching for a new pet cat for my mother so thoughts of cats filled my dreams. I really enjoyed sculpting each cat by hand and bringing those dreams into reality.

I’m trully grateful and thrilled to be among award recipients for SAC 2021 contest. It was a wonderful platform to keep pushing ourselves to try new jewellery techniques. This experience enable me to keep pushing myself, my skills to reach new height in the years to come. Thank you Art Clay for giving us this platform!

Inspired by Peranakan culture, a unique hybridization of ancient Chinese & local South East Asian cultures in the region. My enamel jewellery piece is a modern interpretation of Peranakan culture & aesthetic. In the Peranakan culture, floral designs and geometric blocks are the main influence when it comes to architectural, decorations, and textile design. Bright and retro combination of colours such as pink, yellow, green, white and different hues of blues are the Peranakans’s favourite. It is my dream to see the continuation of the centuries old Peranakan designs staying relevant to modern times to serve as a way to keep heritage & tradition alive through generations.
